Introduction

Health Expert is proud to partner with the 32nd Annual Congress of the Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons of Asia (ATCSA) 2024 as an official media partner. This prestigious event, hosted by the Malaysian Association for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (MATCVS), took place from 21st to 24th November 2024, at the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The congress was held in conjunction with the 24th Annual Scientific Meeting of MATCVS, making it a cornerstone event in the field of thoracic and cardiovascular medicine.

As an internationally recognized gathering, the event provided a platform for over 1,000 delegates from more than 25 countries, both locally and globally, to share expertise and discuss advancements in cardiothoracic healthcare. Guided by the theme “Synergy in Innovation and Expertise,” the congress aligned with Malaysia’s goals to elevate medical standards and foster global collaboration.

Main Congress Day at ATCSA 2024: The Launch Event

The event was officially launched on November 22nd, 2024, by the Minister of Health, YB Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad. The opening ceremony also featured a welcome address by Dato’ Dr Basheer Ahamad Abdul Kareem, President of MATCVS, and Kim-Que Do, President of ATCSA, who emphasized the significance of the event in shaping the future of thoracic and cardiovascular healthcare.

In his speech, the Minister of Health emphasized the government’s commitment to advancing cardiothoracic surgical expertise in Malaysia through strategic collaboration. He highlighted the importance of training more specialists in the field to meet the growing healthcare needs of Malaysians.

He also drew attention to pressing national health challenges, citing data from the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2023. With 54.4% of Malaysians being either overweight or obese, a condition closely linked to cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory conditions, the government remains focused on addressing these critical issues through targeted health initiatives and specialist training.

MOH highlighted the importance of training more specialists in the field to meet the growing healthcare needs of Malaysians.

The congress served as a pivotal platform for fostering collaboration, innovation, and knowledge-sharing, reaffirming Malaysia’s role in advancing global healthcare standards. By bringing together the best minds in the field, the event represents a significant step toward addressing current healthcare challenges and paving the way for a healthier future.

Health Expert at ATCSA 2024: Empowering Career Development for Healthcare Professionals

Health Expert participated on the first day of the congress, 21st November, known as the Pre-Congress Day. Representing WeAssist Sdn Bhd, Health Expert joined hands with its sister product, LocumApps, to open a booth alongside other prominent medical suppliers.

The focus of the day was to raise awareness about career development for healthcare professionals. LocumApps showcased its role as a bridge between healthcare professionals and medical facilities, providing an effective platform to address staffing challenges in hospitals and medical centers.

By distributing Health Expert magazine to attendees, the team successfully connected with healthcare staff from both local and international backgrounds, engaging in meaningful conversations to better understand their challenges. Many cardiac nurses expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to explore job options through LocumApps, downloading the app and onboarding themselves to discover new opportunities.

Delegates from Kenya shared their experiences regarding locum jobs in their country with the LocumApps team.

This effort aligns with the government’s objective to enhance career development within the healthcare industry, ensuring that professionals have access to resources and platforms that support their growth and address workforce needs effectively.

In addition to distributing Health Expert Magazine and hosting a booth, the CEO of WeAssist, Ms. Tiffany Khoo, was invited to deliver a presentation during the Pre-Congress Day. Her talk, titled “Legal Risks in Healthcare,” focused on the importance of transparency and protection for both patients and healthcare professionals.
