Bridging Medical Education and Surgical Practice for Aspiring Surgeons in Malaysia
On 22nd February 2025, the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Students’ Surgical Society (UKMSSS) officially launched its inaugural event, “Charting the Cut: Your Surgical Voyage,” at the Advanced Surgical Skills Centre (ASSC), Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Kuala Lumpur.
Designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and surgical practice, this full-day event attracted over 200 medical students from universities across Malaysia, especially from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The initiative aimed to provide early exposure to surgical specialties and offer practical insights into the diverse career pathways within the surgical field.

2) Interactive Mentorship and Networking Sessions
Students engaged in face-to-face discussions with surgical specialists, gaining clarity on surgical career planning, skill development, and research involvement.



3) Surgical Research Talk
A focused session emphasized the critical role of evidence-based medicine and research in surgical advancement, encouraging students to cultivate analytical thinking and stay updated on innovations in surgical care.



Shaping the Next Generation of Malaysian Surgeons
This launch event was more than a milestone—it marked the beginning of UKMSSS’s commitment to nurturing future-ready surgeons through academic excellence, mentorship, and skill-building opportunities. Support from supervising doctors, healthcare leaders, and invited guests underscored the significance of early surgical exposure in Malaysian medical education.
By providing a comprehensive overview of surgical specializations and facilitating meaningful connections, “Charting the Cut” successfully ignited passion, inspired direction, and set the tone for future UKMSSS initiatives.
